Basil Rice & Soy/Balsamic Chicken

Here's a little some-some I tried out, the rice I had to "wing" & the chicken I used "Harumi's Home Cooking". Keys to success on a family-outing-bento-box: SHORT LIST OF INGREDIENTS!! I know you're shrieking at the thought of yet another desecration of rice, but think of it as "fried rice" & you can forgive me for darn near anything! This fed about 6.

Call me crazy but I (again), really liked the blasphamy of rice with basil, there was just something fun about it!

The Rice:
About 2 1/2 c of cooked rice
10-15 leaves of fresh basil washed & minced
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
two cubes of bullion crushed
1 tbsp shoyu

If you know how to make fried rice, you get the picture. I recommend you put the basil in last, as high heat can sort of mellow the flavor.

The Chicken: 2 chicken thighs
2 tbsp shoyu
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 clove of garlic, sliced
ground black pepper
a little oil for frying

Put the first 4 ingr. in a bowl & stir to combine. Cut chicken into bite sized pieces & marinate for at least 30 min. FRY!!!!

And it's Happy camping!!

Nah, that's not blasphemy -- it's fried rice!

'Twas great fun to finally be able to come over & see you all again! Dinner was super -- it had been awhile since I had hamburger & mashed potatoes, not to mention the biscuits & gravy! (And the highlight had to have been when Hunny grinned & reached out to me at the end!)

Now that I know you let the kids read my comments, I'll try to remember not to use my usual weird abbreviations. :P

I love you, Lani, Ashley, & Ryan, and I miss you again already! Travis, thank you for the hug; that was so kind of you.

Yeah, Japanese people are fine with flavoring the rice you just need to call it what they are used to: Cha han, Omu raisu it's al good. BTW, the recipe looks nice I'll try it some time.

Hey, JR, do you have fresh basil? I hope so! Nice to see a recipe up again at your place.

I haven't started growing any, I have a an actual garden here but I have been lazy and busy so I haven't had much time for posting or growing things.
