Experimental video! --- FEEEDBACK please! :)

Hey there friends. Been a little while. I'm still recovering from a cold, computer adapter fail moment, H1N1 sick kids & other such excuse making. Soooo, to make for it though really I'm still cringing from viewing this......here's a little video I made a while ago. I hope you'll forgive my humble stumble bumble attempt. I know I'm talking non-sense & looking at it now it's not as clear as I wanted (maybe I'll give it a thought before I start) . Plus I have no video editing program so that's something I wanna figure out too. Any suggestions? It's something I wanted to do & hope it'll at least make you smirk. Want to make another one soon. Any advice, tips & love coming my way is great.

  3. Do more! Do more!
For editing, Windows Movie Maker is probably already on your computer. It's pretty simple and basic to get you started at least.
I really like it, Al! I love watching you in action and this time I can do it without feeling like a doofus staring at you, hehe.

  5. Hurray! Not bad for a first video. :) The first thing that came to mind was that I've never seen you cook so slow. :P I do realise that it was for the tutorial though. :)

  6. awesome! can't believe you didn't touch the editing, it's really smooth, naturally everyone thinks they look dorky in their own vids. Great tips too! I have a red capsicum in my fridge now..all I need now is a grill hehe. whenever I did that with eggplant over a raw flame to make babaganoush I would pick at it to skin it...now I know! Definitely do more!! And aich is right about windows movie maker..it's really easy so you can shrink the film if you ever make a mistake (not that you have in this one hehe). looking forward to the next!

  7. tx guys, yeah I tried movie maker but I was taking that on my rinky dink camera so the files came out as Quick Time files & don't really have a clue how to convert them to a file that Windows M.M. will read (course they won't read QT) Soooo, any suggestions? Maybe I just need to get my video camera back & use that anyway. My biggest concern is long moments of ridiculous silence or stupid commentary when I am talking.

And yeah, Kari, I figured if I did it too fast I wouldn't have time to explain it but I want a shorter video so maybe I should just go normal speed. I was actually thinking cutting techniques video would be fun.

  8. No not painful at all Al;) I like the way you do everything so smoothly & make it look easy. Gives happy-wna-learn-how-do-cook cookers like me a hopeful tummy tingle.
The silence is not so long & the commentary is interesting. Please, please make more!!!

    p.s: can we give requests?

  9. I'd like to see a tutorial for cooking cup lamen. I have a sinking feeling now that Masa and Steve were not telling us the whole truth in their video. I am concerned.

  11. I'm going to be uber-critical for a moment, but let me just say i loved this.

Firstly, eliminate the word 'LIKE' from your vocabulary.

Try writing a rough script/story flow, so you have and idea in your head whats happening.

Do that little trick, where things like salt, pepper and capers are pre- prepared in little bowls.

Get your head in the shot, it's pretty.

You've made me think of doing a red and green jar of these for Christmas.

All in all well done. I fully expect you to have your own cooking show, before long.

  12. Lisa, thanks a million! Yeah, I agree 100% abou the likes and needing a script of sorts. Unless I have someone to take video I can't get my face in there unless I zoom out & then you can't see the stuff. I just had to do this to see how much harder it is in real life to pull off. Loved your comments!!

  13. Al, you guys had/have the swine flu??
I read this post and watched the video and then later I was talking with Dad and watching it again and we were both like, wait a minute, what?? Double take!! They're recovering from H1N1?
Why didn't you tell us?? Is everyone okay now?? worryworryworry
